What is PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma and is famously used as an advanced anti-aging and healing treatment. Plasma is a primary component found in blood and is made up of many other components such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. These platelets aid in the body's ability to heal damaged tissue and promote new cell growth because they contain hundreds of natural growth factors. PRP can be injected into the face, scalp and areas to increase sexual performance.

  • Benefit of PRP vary upon the treatment protocol. If it is used for the purpose of facial rejuvenation, benefits include skin that is smoother, toned, and also reduction of scars or blemishes.
  • For the treatment of hair restoration benefits include increased hair growth and density.
  • For the treatment of sexual enhancement for men benefits include increased vigor and stamina during intercourse.
  • For the treatment of sexual enhancement for women benefits include increased moisture and pleasure during intercourse.

A medical history of metastatic conditions like cancer or disease is one of the most important PRP injection contraindications. Patients with these conditions might have blood that is infected with cancer cells. This factor is especially true for patients that have hematopoietic cancer or cancer of the bone marrow. For this reason, their blood cannot be used for PRP therapy. Other contraindications to PRP include:

  • Low Platelet count: The blood must have a platelet count of at least 105/ul.
  • Insufficient Hemoglobin or Low HGB count: The patient must not be anemic, and the blood must have at least 10 g/dl of hemoglobin.
  • Low Fibrinogen count: Fibrinogen is a part of the platelets in the blood and acts as the key component of the PRP serum. Patients must have a normal count of 200–400 mg/deciliter of fibrinogen in the plasma. If the levels are lower than this minimum range, the blood cannot clot normally.

There are no adverse reactions since this procedure uses your own blood.

Immediately following the procedure, the most commonly reported temporary side effects are redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, tingling, numbness, lumpiness, and/or a feeling of pressure or fullness at the injection sites and/or in the treated area(s). Cold gel packs/ice may be gently applied immediately after treatment to reduce swelling.

You must leave the PRP on your skin for a minimum of 10 hours. 24 hours is recommended for optimal results.

It is recommended to do at least 3 treatments, 4 weeks apart in order to achieve optimal results. Patients have reported desired results after 1 treatment session.

Please arrive 30 minutes before your appointment for numbing of the treatment area. The entire procedure takes about 45 minutes in total.

Please arrive with skin exfoliated and no makeup on. It is recommended not to wear make up for at least 24 hours after the treatment.

Typically, 1 vial of the patient’s blood, will be sufficient for microneedling the skin in its entirety. If the patient is looking to inject the plasma into specific areas, they will need a second vial.

Do not consume alcohol consumption for a minimum of 6 hours and refrain from taking blood thinners such as Aspirin and NSAIDS for several days. Tylenol is recommended if needed for discomfort.

Avoid touching or scrubbing at the injection sites for 24 hours after treatment.
Sleep on your back with your head elevated and avoid rubbing the treated area for 2 weeks.
Avoid direct high heat (blow dryer, sun exposure, sauna, steam room, very hot shower, hot yoga, strenuous exercise, etc.) for 24 hours after treatment.

No Facials, Facial Massages, or Laser Treatments for 2 Weeks Afterward: Most facials, chemical peels, laser, and light treatments may be done immediately prior to the treatment but not for 2 weeks after the treatment.

Yes, Botox® may be injected immediately before or after treatment.

PRP Vampire Facial

I’ve been dealing with acne for about 1 year now and tried everything in the book with no luck. I finally tried the PRP Vampire Facial and I wish I tried it months ago! I did two vials and after one treatment my skin felt and looked smoother than a baby’s!

PRP Hair Restoration

I couldn’t believe the results of the PRP hair restoration until I saw them myself. My hair was thinning at the crown so I tried it and after one treatment I noticed my hair stopped falling out as much and it looked and felt thicker. Can’t wait to see how much better it gets after my next treatment!
